Driving community engagement and retention whilst navigating a seed funding round

How to test, show growth, engagement and retention on a new platform via a new medium.

Based on the insight that more and more Gen Z are using audio for notes via WhatsApp, for podcasts etc the team at Beams set out to create a new medium via short form audio.

My role within this space was helping test new capabilities and build out the strategies needed to prove growth for the start up. We successfully showed traction through multiple beams including a Euro 2021 short form user generated podcast, a ‘founders club’ podcast featuring many successful entrepreneurs, a crypto daily release and many more.

The goal of showing traction and retention worked as the platform went on to raise 6m in seed funding in 2021 thanks to the work from the team across the board. Whilst usually in a strategy role, setting first hand experience of creating a platform was invaluable and the opportunity to work with ex leaders of Soundcloud, Spotify, and N26 was a wonderful insight into the future of social media.
